Vivid Art Gallery showcases fine art in the Hubbard Woods Design District of Winnetka. We feature primarily paintings, works on paper, photography and ceramics from emerging and established artists. Our focus is on local and Midwest artists. Vivid presents a new exhibit each month, with First Friday openings.
We provide a warm, welcoming, non-intimidating atmosphere where both new and experienced collectors can feel comfortable asking questions, pricing is transparent, and browsing is encouraged.
Vivid is a full-service gallery, offering art consultation as well as delivery, framing and installation.

Izzy Cho: Gift Giving

Exhibit Opening: February 2nd, 5-7 PM
Emerging artist Izzy Cho is a print, sculpture, and installation artist. Cho’s work engages with symbolism, semiotics, and visual patterns derived from her Korean American identity.
A recent MFA graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, her work is 3-dimensional, extremely detailed and intricate, with each piece taking on a different, unique shape. Her works on paper, which primarily utilize screen printing and collage processes, are double-sided, allowing for a unique 360 degree viewing experience for the viewer.
In this particular exhibit, her goal is to comment on Korean traditions surrounding gift giving. Most of the imagery and concepts within her work are inspired by gestures of (cultural) kindness, sharing, and literal gifts given to her.

Her work explores the intersection of color, transparency and light, and will be on display at the gallery throughout the month of April.
As the title suggests, Julie's newest work focuses on two of her favorite subjects, architecture and florals. However, it also displays a new development in Julie’s process. She still begins with a lithograph based on a photograph. Then rather than coloring directly on the lithograph, she paints grid patterns on fabric-like Swedish paper using watercolor in jewel tones.
She lays combinations of these grids onto the lithograph until she finds a composition that pleases her, then glues them down. The glue gives the grids a level of transparency which allows details of the underlying lithograph to shine through. The result is a lovely combination of geometry, color, and line.

Her work comes from a place that reflects on her collective memory, specific thoughts, and associations that are unique to each person. She finds beauty hidden in the mundanity of everyday life – the texture and hues of an old, crumbling wall; the reflection of water; the arch of a bridge – music offers influence as well, particularly classical, jazz, and the blues.
Kander creates multi-media work that is primarily non-representational and is influenced by architectural symbols, landscapes, and her love of texture. Her canvases are vehicles for various materials and elements of collage. She works with a variety of materials, including powdered gesso, cold wax, dry-wall compound, acrylic medium, marble dust, and oils.
Building her surfaces onto canvas, she sometimes incorporates collaged materials. Adding in marks and gestures made with brushes and other tools, she enjoys a reciprocal “conversation” with the work in progress.
Kander’s complicated yet fluid images illustrate her experiences as a world citizen. Kander was born in Jerusalem and grew up there and in South Africa. She studied fine art at the University of Witwatersrand (Johannesburg, BFA), traveled to Italy on scholarship, then attended Goldsmiths (London, MFA), and thereafter studied at the Art Students League of New York. She now resides in Indiana, US. Her works are included in museum, corporate, and private collections worldwide.

Engaging with nature provides her with the language to create her own silent spaces. Izzy Cho
This joint exhibit features new work by emerging artists Izzy Cho and Lainey Peltier. While very different in style and subject, their work is similar in the way that it develops. Their processes often include repetition and mimicry, which serve as ways to dig deeper into the meaning of what each artist is exploring in their art.
Cho’s mixed media on paper work is meant to be a commentary on her Korean American heritage, celebrating earnest but humorous attempts to pay homage to her transnational upbringing. Peltier’s work, on the other hand, is focused on what she sees in the world around her. She alters and then rearranges what she observes as part of an open-ended exploration. While Peltier studied printmaking and works extensively in that medium, this body of work is her first foray into painting.

On Friday, April 4th, we will be having an exhibit opening for featured artist Allison Svoboda's show \"Preternatural.\" The opening will run from 5-7 PM and will display Allison's newest work, which focuses on the dualities of our natural world and what we experience in it, with organic patterns and forms having an instinctive draw for her. Done on site, her work is the result of quiet contemplation in a place of natural beauty, often on the shore of Lake Michigan.

On May 2nd, we will be having an exhibit opening for featured artist Allison Svoboda's show \"Preternatural.\" The opening will run from 5-7 PM and will display Larry's photographic work, which is defined by its blend of sharp and soft focus. Describing himself as a wanderer, his curiosity on his travels guides him to unexpected scenes and objects that he uses to create his photos.

Art of Giving
During the month of December, the gallery will host a group exhibit. Each artist is exhibiting unique work that reflects the natural beauty of the world, most notably the changing seasons, whether it be the vibrancy of spring and summer, the stillness of winter, or the varying colors of fall. 10% of all gallery sales during the month will benefit the New Trier Township food pantry.

To celebrate this exciting new representation, the gallery will present “Beneath the Surface,” an introductory pop-up exhibition running March 21 through April 12, 2026.
A lifelong Wisconsin native and internationally recognized master pastelist, Smith brings nearly three decades of luminous landscape work to the gallery.. Her contemporary landscapes occupy the evocative space between realism and abstraction, inviting viewers into intimate encounters with water, rock, and foliage. Working in soft pastels layered over watercolor underpaintings, she reveals what she calls “the mysteries and miracles lying in plain sight”—transforming familiar Midwestern scenes into meditations on light, reflection, and hidden meaning.
Colette’s work embodies everything we celebrate at Lily Pad Gallery. Her deep connection to Wisconsin’s landscape, combined with her extraordinary technical mastery, creates paintings that reward both immediate appreciation and sustained contemplation. We’re thrilled to welcome her to our gallery family.
Growing up in Milwaukee in a large working-class family, Smith found beauty in urban puddles and wayward weeds pushing through the cracks in the sidewalks. That eye for the profound within the ordinary has guided her artistic journey from a transformative pastel class at MIAD to international recognition.
Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States, France, Germany, and China, earning over 70 awards and a place in the permanent collection of the Ming Gallery Museum of Pastel in Suzhou, China.
Smith holds the distinction of being honored by the world’s most prestigious pastel societies: Maître Pastelliste from la Société des Pastellistes de France, Master Pastelist from the Pastel Society of America, and Eminent Pastelist from the International Association of Pastel Societies. In 2014, she served as Guest of Honor at the Société des Pastellistes de France exhibition at Parc Caillebotte, the historic home of Impressionist painter Gustave Caillebotte.
“My heart knows there is more going on than simple appearance,” Smith has written of her work. “I feel compelled to explore what lessons are there to be learned.”Her paintings, often depicting close views of water and stone without horizon lines, dissolve the boundary between looking down and looking in—between the physical world and something more essential beneath it.

This month, we're excited to be exhibiting new work from special exhibitor Amy Malcolm!
Amy is a Chicago-area artist who creates painterly cartoon-like art inspired by her work as a professional illustrator and as an employee at DC Comics. She combines spontaneous line with narrative inspiration to concoct visual satire; much of her work depicts women in various states of being female.
These satirical \"cartoons\" allow viewers to create their own stories about the women being depicted. This work is a breath of fresh air - stop in and let it wash over you!
First Friday - This Friday, 4-7 PM
On Friday, July 10th, we will be having an exhibit opening for special exhibitor Meghan Borah's show \"Rainy Day Women.\" The opening will run from 5-7 PM and will display Meghan's unique, thought-provoking work, which is influenced by how others view us, how we view ourselves, how we react, and how that makes us feel.
