Their partnership established a spirit of experimentation and technical innovation that continues to define Tandem Press today. Featuring works that reflect Gilliam’s bold approach to abstraction alongside Weege’s commitment to collaborative printmaking, the exhibition honors the creative foundation upon which the press was built. Together, these works trace the beginning of a legacy that has shaped generations of artists and printers.

Sam Gilliam (1933-2022) was born in Tupelo, Mississippi. Since the early sixties, Sam Gilliam has been a pillar of the Washington D.C., the modern, and the contemporary art communities. He has tested the boundaries of color, form, texture, and the canvas itself over the course of his long, productive career. Gilliam was a major contributor to the Washington Color School, a group of Washington D.C. artists that developed a form of abstract color field painting during the late 1950s through mid-1970s.

His inventive approach to creating art has also had a great impact on the field of Abstract Expressionism. One of the most important African-American artists of the twentieth century, Sam Gilliam was the subject of a 1983 retrospective exhibition at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington D.C., Modern Painter at the Corcoran: Sam Gilliam. His works are included in prestigious collections such as the Art Institute of Chicago, the Beymans Museum in Rotterdam, the Phillips Collection, the Corcoran Museum, the Hirshhorn Museum, the National Museum of American Art, the Metropolitan Museum, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Tate Gallery in London, the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, the Chazen Museum of Art in Madison, and the Musee d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris among many others.

William Weege (b. 1935, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; d. 2020, Arena, Wisconsin) was a pillar in the printmaking and papermaking fields in the United States. He exuberantly explored unconventional printmaking processes, adding paint, collage, handmade paper, and sewn elements to various printed surfaces to create vibrant abstract expressions. He was also an early practitioner in the revival of handmade paper, which started in the 1960s.

Although he is best known for his later abstract works, much of his early art commented on social and political issues. Weege studied engineering and city planning and worked at a commercial printing firm before returning to school to study printmaking. He received his MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 1970, Weege represented the United States at the Venice Biennale before joining the UW-Madison Art Department faculty in 1971. He founded Tandem Press in 1987. In addition to being a distinguished professor, Weege had a very successful career as an artist. He exhibited widely, and his work is included in many museum collections throughout the United States including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Detroit Institute of Art, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Brooklyn Museum of Art, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
","type":null,"state":"published","slug":"sam-gilliam-william-weege","created_at":"2026-09-15 16:04:45.863","updated_at":"2026-09-15 16:04:45.863","excerpt":"","is_timeless":true,"organization_id":274,"highlighted":false,"opening_starts_at":"2026-11-06 17:00:00","opening_ends_at":"2026-11-06 21:00:00","searchable":"'-2022':98B '1933':97B '1935':314B '1950s':174B '1960s':373B '1970':427B '1970s':178B '1971':447B '1983':217B '1987':453B '2020':318B 'abstract':58B,167B,195B,355B,382B 'ad':340B 'addit':455B 'african':203B 'african-american':202B 'alongsid':59B 'also':186B,359B 'although':374B 'american':204B,266B 'among':308B 'approach':56B,181B 'arena':319B 'art':123B,184B,244B,267B,275B,286B,294B,301B,388B,443B,491B,495B,501B,505B,511B 'artist':29B,92B,161B,205B,469B 'b':313B 'begin':83B 'best':377B 'beyman':249B 'biennal':436B 'bold':55B 'born':100B 'boundari':129B 'brooklyn':502B 'built':77B 'canva':136B 'career':145B,466B 'celebr':10B 'center':287B 'centuri':209B 'chazen':291B 'chicago':247B 'citi':399B 'collabor':28B,64B 'collag':342B 'collect':240B,255B,481B 'color':131B,154B,168B 'comment':389B 'commerci':405B 'commit':62B 'communiti':124B 'contemporari':122B 'continu':43B 'contributor':150B 'corcoran':222B,231B,257B 'cours':140B 'creat':183B,353B 'creativ':70B 'd':300B,317B 'd.c':117B,160B,226B 'de':303B,306B 'defin':45B 'depart':444B 'detroit':492B 'develop':163B 'distinguish':459B 'earli':106B,361B,387B 'element':347B 'engin':397B 'establish':34B 'exhibit':67B,219B,471B 'experiment':38B 'explor':336B 'express':356B 'expression':196B 'exuber':335B 'faculti':445B 'featur':49B 'field':169B,193B,329B 'firm':407B 'first':27B 'form':132B,165B 'found':449B 'foundat':71B 'founder':16B 'francisco':497B 'galleri':223B,281B 'generat':90B 'gilliam':2A,31B,53B,96B,109B,146B,211B,233B 'great':189B 'groundbreak':21B 'group':157B 'handmad':343B,367B 'hirshhorn':260B 'honor':68B 'impact':190B 'import':201B 'includ':237B,477B,486B 'innov':41B 'institut':245B,493B 'invent':180B 'issu':394B 'join':438B 'known':378B 'la':304B 'late':173B 'later':381B 'legaci':86B 'london':283B 'long':143B 'madison':296B,425B,442B 'major':149B 'mani':309B,479B 'metropolitan':269B 'mfa':418B 'mid':177B 'mid-1970s':176B 'milwauke':315B 'minneapoli':289B 'mississippi':103B 'modern':119B,227B,274B,302B,500B,510B 'much':384B 'muse':299B 'museum':250B,258B,261B,264B,270B,272B,292B,480B,489B,498B,503B,508B 'nation':263B 'new':277B,513B 'number':5B 'one':6B,197B 'other':310B 'paint':170B,341B 'painter':228B 'paper':344B,368B 'papermak':328B 'pari':307B 'partnership':33B 'philadelphia':488B 'phillip':254B 'pillar':113B,323B 'plan':400B 'polit':393B 'practition':362B 'press':9B,15B,25B,47B,75B,451B 'prestigi':239B 'print':350B,406B 'printer':94B 'printmak':65B,326B,338B,414B 'process':339B 'product':144B 'professor':460B 'receiv':416B 'reflect':52B 'repres':429B 'retrospect':218B 'return':409B 'reviv':365B 'rotterdam':252B 'sam':1A,30B,95B,108B,210B,232B 'san':496B 'school':155B,411B 'sewn':346B 'shape':89B 'sinc':104B 'sixti':107B 'social':391B 'spirit':36B 'start':370B 'state':333B,432B,485B 'studi':396B,413B 'subject':214B 'success':465B 'surfac':351B 'tandem':8B,14B,46B,450B 'tate':280B 'technic':40B 'test':127B 'textur':133B 'throughout':482B 'today':48B 'togeth':78B 'trace':81B 'tupelo':102B 'twentieth':208B 'unconvent':337B 'unit':332B,431B,484B 'univers':421B 'upon':72B 'uw':441B 'uw-madison':440B 'various':349B 'venic':435B 'vibrant':354B 'vill':305B 'vision':12B 'walker':285B 'washington':116B,153B,159B,225B 'weeg':4A,18B,60B,312B,395B,428B,461B 'wide':472B 'william':3A,17B,311B 'wisconsin':316B,320B,424B 'wisconsin-madison':423B 'work':22B,50B,80B,235B,383B,402B,475B 'york':278B,514B","thumbnail":"https://res.cloudinary.com/dfafo598z/image/upload/v1789488109/u4p2owityvlbzqk3ofa6.jpg","calendar":null,"carousel":false,"category_name":"Exhibitions"}],"pastEvents":[{"id":8834,"title":"Derek Hibbs: Ramshackle","starts_at":"2021-11-12 12:00:00","ends_at":"2022-01-14 12:00:00","body":"
Tandem Press is pleased to host Ramshackle, an exhibition of prints by Derek Hibbs, a 2020 MFA graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and former Tandem Press project assistant. Ramshackle has been a relevant word for how one many feel while enduring the seemingly endless battle of living in a tumultuous political landscape amidst a global pandemic. Schmidt’s work explores place as part of a narrative about human impact and intervention. Somewhere Between offers a depiction of the changing landscape through the lens of liminality.

Artist Biography:

Carley Schmidt is a multi-disciplinary artist motivated by her relationship to landscape. She utilizes aspects of printmaking, papermaking, photography, and sculpture to explore place as part of a cumulative narrative about human impact and intervention. Schmidt attended the Glasgow School of Art in 2015 before graduating from Gonzaga University in 2017. Since then, she has exhibited work in places like Milwaukee, WI, Chicago, IL, and Sofia, Bulgaria. She has been the Artist-in-Residence at Ne’Na Contemporary Art Space in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and at the Tallgrass Artist Residency in Matfield Green, Kansas. Schmidt is a recipient of the Glenn R. Allen Art Scholarship and the Gabriele S. Haberland Travel Award. She is currently an MFA Candidate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Project Assistant at Tandem Press.

Exhibition Statement:

Somewhere Between presents a poetic meditation on the changing landscape. This body of work combines photography, sculpture, handmade paper, and aquatint prints to situate notions of place. Engaging the language of geometric abstraction and the strategy of repetition, the prints and sculptures in this exhibition reflect mapped space and speak to a larger narrative of human impact and intervention.

Each work offers a depiction of containment. The expansiveness of the sculptures’ imagery is interrupted by the boundaries of its own form. These visual cues recall how the sky, untouched and unending, differs from the land below the horizon, which takes on the human-drawn partitions brought by colonial development practices: manifested as fences, property lines, and other symbols of ownership.

The unusual geometries of the works are derived from satellite photographs. The angular forms reference boundary lines found within the tallgrass prairie of Kansas, one of the most diminished landscapes in North America. The shapes create intentional limitations, bounding an image’s expanse to the edges of its irregular frame, or from one color field to the edge of another. When puzzled together, the forms generate a reflection, and a paradox that illuminates a fraught yet optimistic relationship between people and the lands we occupy.

As the sculptures attempt to place borders onto the sky, the aquatint prints use the same boundaries to consider fluctuations on land. The repetition of imagery, coupled with subtle shifts in tonality, signifies the tangible passage of time. Recurrent forms disappear and reappear, existing in a constant state of flux, somewhere between presence and absence. Each print operates individually as a suspended moment in time, however, when taken together, the series becomes a collection of snapshots of an ever-evolving landscape. The land we know now will remain unchanged only in memory. That same land will long outlive us.

This exhibition is made possible through support from the Anonymous Fund.

","type":"Event","state":"published","slug":"carley-schmidt-mfa-thesis-exhibition","created_at":"2022-03-16 16:43:52.512041","updated_at":"2022-05-02 15:35:20.782541","excerpt":"","is_timeless":true,"organization_id":274,"highlighted":false,"opening_starts_at":null,"opening_ends_at":null,"searchable":"'-7':24B '-9':11B '2015':135B '2017':142B '5':10B,23B '6':9B 'absenc':487B 'abstract':259B 'allen':195B 'america':380B 'angular':360B 'anonym':542B 'anoth':407B 'aquatint':247B,444B 'art':39B,133B,171B,196B 'artist':88B,97B,164B,181B 'artist-in-resid':163B 'aspect':106B 'assist':58B,221B 'attempt':436B 'attend':128B 'award':204B 'becom':504B 'biographi':89B 'bodi':238B 'border':439B 'bound':386B 'boundari':303B,363B,449B 'brought':333B 'bulgaria':158B 'candid':51B,210B 'carley':1A,43B,90B 'chang':81B,235B 'chiang':174B 'chicago':154B 'click':26B 'coincid':13B 'collect':506B 'coloni':335B 'color':401B 'combin':241B 'consid':451B 'constant':479B 'contain':292B 'contemporari':170B 'coupl':459B 'creat':383B 'cue':310B 'cumul':120B 'curatori':56B 'current':53B,207B 'depict':78B,290B 'deriv':355B 'develop':336B 'differ':318B 'diminish':376B 'disappear':473B 'disciplinari':96B 'drawn':331B 'edg':393B,405B 'engag':254B 'ever':512B 'ever-evolv':511B 'evolv':513B 'exhibit':5A,41B,147B,225B,271B,534B 'exist':476B 'expans':294B,390B 'explor':62B,114B 'fenc':340B 'field':402B 'fine':38B 'fluctuat':452B 'flux':482B 'form':307B,361B,412B,472B 'found':365B 'frame':397B 'fraught':422B 'friday':7B,19B 'fund':543B 'gabriel':200B 'generat':413B 'geometr':258B 'geometri':350B 'glasgow':130B 'glenn':193B 'gonzaga':139B 'graduat':137B 'green':185B 'haberland':202B 'handmad':244B 'horizon':324B 'host':34B 'howev':498B 'human':70B,123B,282B,330B 'human-drawn':329B 'il':155B 'illumin':420B 'imag':388B 'imageri':298B,458B 'impact':71B,124B,283B 'individu':491B 'inform':28B 'intent':384B 'interrupt':300B 'intervent':73B,126B,285B 'irregular':396B 'jazz':20B 'kansa':186B,371B 'know':518B 'land':321B,430B,454B,516B,528B 'landscap':82B,103B,236B,377B,514B 'languag':256B 'larger':279B 'len':85B 'like':151B 'limin':87B 'limit':385B 'line':342B,364B 'long':530B 'made':536B 'madison':49B,217B 'mai':175B 'manifest':338B 'map':273B 'master':36B 'matfield':184B 'may':8B 'medit':232B 'memori':525B 'mfa':3A,50B,209B 'milwauke':152B 'moment':495B 'motiv':98B 'multi':95B 'multi-disciplinari':94B 'na':169B 'narrat':68B,121B,280B 'ne':168B 'north':379B 'notion':251B 'occupi':432B 'offer':76B,288B 'one':372B,400B 'onto':440B 'oper':490B 'optimist':424B 'outliv':531B 'ownership':347B 'paper':245B 'papermak':109B 'paradox':418B 'part':65B,117B 'partit':332B 'passag':468B 'peopl':427B 'perform':16B 'photograph':358B 'photographi':110B,242B 'place':63B,115B,150B,253B,438B 'pleas':32B 'pm':12B,25B 'poetic':231B 'possibl':537B 'practic':337B 'prairi':369B 'presenc':485B 'present':229B 'press':30B,55B,224B 'print':248B,266B,445B,489B 'printmak':108B 'project':57B,220B 'properti':341B 'puzzl':409B 'r':194B 'reappear':475B 'recal':311B 'recept':6B 'recipi':190B 'recurr':471B 'refer':362B 'reflect':272B,415B 'relationship':101B,425B 'remain':521B 'repetit':264B,456B 'resid':166B,182B 'satellit':357B 'schmidt':2A,44B,59B,91B,127B,187B 'scholarship':197B 'school':131B 'sculptur':112B,243B,268B,297B,435B 'seri':21B,503B 'shape':382B 'shift':462B 'signifi':465B 'sinc':143B 'situat':250B 'sky':314B,442B 'snapshot':508B 'sofia':157B 'somewher':74B,227B,483B 'space':172B,274B 'speak':276B 'state':480B 'statement':226B 'strategi':262B 'subtl':461B 'support':539B 'suspend':494B 'symbol':345B 'take':326B 'taken':500B 'tallgrass':180B,368B 'tandem':29B,54B,223B 'tangibl':467B 'thailand':176B 'thesi':4A,40B 'time':470B,497B 'togeth':410B,501B 'tonal':464B 'travel':203B 'unchang':522B 'unend':317B 'univers':45B,140B,213B 'untouch':315B 'unusu':349B 'us':532B 'use':446B 'util':105B 'visual':309B 'wi':153B 'wisconsin':48B,216B 'wisconsin-madison':47B,215B 'within':366B 'work':61B,148B,240B,287B,353B 'yet':423B","thumbnail":"https://res.cloudinary.com/dfafo598z/image/upload/f_auto,q_auto/v1721668550/toaxwbk4n1gihdq22xhh.jpg","calendar":"https://res.cloudinary.com/dfafo598z/raw/upload/v1721669610/event_ics_1721669609788.ics","carousel":null,"category_name":"Exhibitions"},{"id":9126,"title":"Carley Schmidt: MFA Thesis Exhibition","starts_at":"2022-05-06 12:00:00","ends_at":"2022-05-06 12:00:00","body":"
Reception: Friday, May 6, 5-9pm (Coinciding with a performance in our Friday Jazz Series from 5-7pm. This exhibition, curated by the Tandem Press collaborative printmakers Jason Ruhl, Joe Freye, Patrick Smyczek, and Seth Klekamp, presents a behind-the-scenes view of a selection of Tandem Press prints and the printmaking materials used in their creation.

The exhibition, which begins in the Apex Gallery and continues upstairs into the Gabriele S. Haberland Contemporary Print Study Center, includes prints by a broad range of artists to demonstrate the expansive ways—from abstract expressionism to photographic representation—artists use the printmaking medium to engage with personal, political, social, and environmental themes.

The three woodblocks Alison Saar carved to create one of her newest prints, Blonde Dreams (2021), hang alongside the finished artwork. The physicality of the marks carved in the woodblocks not only reveals how Saar rendered the image for this print, but the deconstruction of the image, when viewed in this context, also heightens aspects of the conceptual narrative within her work. The print depicts a Black figure with cascading gold hair representative of white anglicized beauty standards. The dream of long blonde hair has hamstrung the woman. Just as the image is broken down across several woodblocks to create this print, the pressure to modify oneself to achieve social ideals has led the depicted woman to deconstruct and alter her natural self-expression.

Another woodblock, carved by Jim Dine with a chainsaw rather than typical wood chisels, is shown alongside two different prints, The Black and Red Heart (2013) and The New Building (2014). This woodblock, which was printed to create one of several layers in the final images, demonstrates a primary characteristic of the printmaking medium: the ability to print multiple images from the same block for various purposes.

In addition to showing examples of the materials used to create fine art prints, this exhibition also shares a unique view into the collaborative process that occurs in the Tandem Press studio between our collaborative printmakers and the artists. For example, a portfolio of working proofs with handwritten production notes is shown alongside nine prints from Suzanne Caporael’s Vandercook Suite (2013), and photographs of Caporael working in the studio with collaborative printmakers Joe Freye and Jason Ruhl accompany another of her prints, Montpelier, Ohio (2012). During the proofing or working process, the artist collaborates with the printmakers to try out different papers, ink colors, and printing techniques to select the materials and methods that best achieve the artist’s vision for the final artwork.

","type":"Event","state":"published","slug":"behind-the-scenes-49a1c800-afab-44f2-b2a1-182520114e85","created_at":"2022-06-29 12:29:13.092934","updated_at":"2022-06-29 12:29:13.102029","excerpt":"","is_timeless":true,"organization_id":274,"highlighted":false,"opening_starts_at":null,"opening_ends_at":null,"searchable":"'2012':404B '2013':277B,380B '2014':282B '2021':142B '2022':13B 'abil':307B 'abstract':108B 'accompani':397B 'achiev':235B,435B 'across':222B 'addit':320B 'alison':130B 'alongsid':144B,268B,371B 'also':179B,335B 'alter':246B 'anglic':202B 'anoth':252B,398B 'apex':80B 'art':30B,331B 'artist':101B,113B,357B,412B,437B 'artwork':147B,443B 'aspect':181B 'beauti':203B 'begin':77B 'behind':1A,55B 'behind-the-scen':54B 'best':434B 'black':193B,273B 'block':315B 'blond':140B,209B 'broad':98B 'broken':220B 'build':281B 'caporael':376B,384B 'carv':132B,153B,254B 'cascad':196B 'center':93B 'chainsaw':260B 'characterist':301B 'chisel':265B 'coincid':10B 'collabor':41B,342B,353B,390B,413B 'color':423B 'conceptu':184B 'confer':21B 'contemporari':90B 'context':178B 'continu':83B 'council':16B 'creat':134B,226B,289B,329B 'creation':73B 'curat':36B 'deconstruct':170B,244B 'demonstr':103B,298B 'depart':31B 'depict':191B,241B 'differ':270B,420B 'dine':257B 'dream':141B,206B 'engag':119B 'environment':125B 'exampl':323B,359B 'exhibit':5B,35B,75B,334B 'expans':105B 'express':251B 'expression':109B 'figur':194B 'final':296B,442B 'fine':330B 'finish':146B 'frey':46B,393B 'gabriel':87B 'galleri':81B 'gold':197B 'graphic':15B 'haberland':89B 'hair':198B,210B 'hamstrung':212B 'handwritten':366B 'hang':143B 'heart':276B 'heighten':180B 'host':24B 'ideal':237B 'imag':164B,173B,218B,297B,311B 'includ':94B 'ink':422B 'intern':17B 'jason':43B,395B 'jim':256B 'joe':45B,392B 'klekamp':51B 'layer':293B 'led':239B 'long':208B 'madison':29B 'mark':152B 'materi':69B,326B,430B 'medium':117B,305B 'method':432B 'modifi':232B 'montpeli':402B 'multipl':310B 'narrat':185B 'natur':248B 'new':280B 'newest':138B 'nine':372B 'note':368B 'occur':345B 'ohio':403B 'one':135B,290B 'oneself':233B 'organ':8B 'paper':421B 'patrick':47B 'person':121B 'photograph':111B,382B 'physic':149B 'polit':122B 'portfolio':361B 'present':52B 'press':40B,64B,349B 'pressur':230B 'primari':300B 'print':65B,91B,95B,139B,167B,190B,228B,271B,287B,309B,332B,373B,401B,425B 'printmak':20B,42B,68B,116B,304B,354B,391B,416B 'process':343B,410B 'product':367B 'proof':364B,407B 'purpos':318B 'rang':99B 'rather':261B 'red':275B 'render':162B 'repres':199B 'represent':112B 'reveal':159B 'ruhl':44B,396B 'saar':131B,161B 'scene':3A,57B 'select':61B,428B 'self':250B 'self-express':249B 'seth':50B 'sever':223B,292B 'sgci':19B 'share':336B 'show':322B 'shown':267B,370B 'smyczek':48B 'social':123B,236B 'southern':14B 'standard':204B 'studi':92B 'studio':350B,388B 'suit':379B 'suzann':375B 'tandem':39B,63B,348B 'techniqu':426B 'theme':126B 'three':128B 'tri':418B 'two':269B 'typic':263B 'uniqu':338B 'upstair':84B 'use':70B,114B,327B 'uw':28B 'uw-madison':27B 'vandercook':378B 'various':317B 'view':58B,175B,339B 'vision':439B 'way':106B 'white':201B 'within':186B 'woman':214B,242B 'wood':264B 'woodblock':129B,156B,224B,253B,284B 'work':188B,363B,385B,409B 'year':33B","thumbnail":"https://res.cloudinary.com/dfafo598z/image/upload/f_auto,q_auto/v1721668567/pxrnn2ql02rfq7mdn4yi.png","calendar":"https://res.cloudinary.com/dfafo598z/raw/upload/v1721669627/event_ics_1721669626738.ics","carousel":null,"category_name":"Exhibitions"},{"id":9997,"title":"Enigma: The Prints of David Lynch","starts_at":"2022-09-06 12:00:00","ends_at":"2022-10-28 12:00:00","body":"","type":"Event","state":"published","slug":"enigma-the-prints-of-david-lynch-cc8a0b2e-01d5-4efc-a5be-62100bced2ee","created_at":"2022-09-20 20:08:49.183541","updated_at":"2022-09-20 20:08:49.190269","excerpt":"","is_timeless":true,"organization_id":274,"highlighted":false,"opening_starts_at":null,"opening_ends_at":null,"searchable":"'david':5A 'enigma':1A 'lynch':6A 'print':3A","thumbnail":null,"calendar":"https://res.cloudinary.com/dfafo598z/raw/upload/v1721669640/event_ics_1721669640131.ics","carousel":null,"category_name":"Exhibitions"},{"id":9736,"title":"T.L. Solien: Works on Paper","starts_at":"2022-11-04 12:00:00","ends_at":"2023-01-13 12:00:00","body":"
Tandem Press is excited to host an exhibition of prints and paintings by Madison-based artist T.L. Solien this fall. T.L. Solien has worked in the Tandem Press studio in two occurrences, creating four editions of prints during those times. His most recent print created at Tandem Press The Spanish Chair belongs to a larger series of work Solien has been developing over the past few years. We will show a selection of works on paper and one large painting from this series alongside The Spanish Chair in this exhibition titled Along the Way.

T.L. Solien, The Spanish Chair, 2021

Exhibition Statement:

As he approached his retirement from a twenty-three-year career as a tenured professor in the UW-Madison Art Department, T.L. Solien sat in class with his drawing students and worked alongside them to demonstrate an artist’s practice of persistent creativity. At the time, he was also becoming disinterested in the figural-dominant compositions which had informed his work for many decades. Instead, he wanted to explore figure/ground relationships in which the “figure” and its environment were intertwined and inseparable.

During his daily drawing practice, Solien drafted networks of lines in graphite across sheets of paper. As he edited these drawings, they developed structures like those found in stone pathways, walls, or patios. As he continued to work on the drawings and develop them further with gouache and watercolor paints, some of the forms began to suggest almost identifiable objects while others remained completely abstract. As they were such a departure from his previous work, these new pieces felt very foreign to Solien, but he found this new method of working to be highly challenging and satisfying. The process was full of moments of doubt, persistence, and excitement. As the development of the composition took precedence over and determined the final image, Solien discarded his dedication to developing a narrative within his work. Instead, each piece depicts a moment on a path, commenting that reaching the end is not the ultimate goal but that one must also relish in the moments of discovery that are found along the way.

Along the Way presents a selection of pieces, predominately works on paper, Solien created through this working process between 2019-2022. Several phases of this project are represented here, including works that are purely abstract and others that begin to depict objects or people. A few art historical references also appear throughout this body of work. Solien stated that he considered his working process to be comparable to Donald Judd’s meditations on the cube or Gene Davis’s choice to only use stripes of color to create his color field paintings. Pablo Picasso’s Cubist sculpture Chair from 1961, which seemed to be crushed from three dimensions down to two dimensions and then unfolded back to three dimensions, was a particular point of inspiration for The Spanish Chair. Solien shares with these artists a steadfast trust in the practice of persistent creativity, which was the impetus for this project from the beginning. By establishing parameters in which to work and asking questions such as “what is it, and how does it seem to exist?” without actually expecting to arrive at any concrete answers, Solien invites us, as viewers, to join him in this state of creative curiosity.

Artist Biography:

Since the late ‘70s, T.L. Solien (b. 1949, Fargo, North Dakota) has been linked to the continuing evolution of figural painting and has been grouped within the concerns of Neo-Expressionism, Neo-Surrealism, and New Image histories. A self-described artist of the “absurdist cultural critique,” Solien depicts the contemporary collapse of our culture in his work. Using expressive color and imaginative imagery, he often constructs paradoxical narratives with references to his Scandinavian heritage, family memories, and various references to art and literature of the past. Solien received his BA from Moorhead State University and his MFA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He has received many honors and awards, including a Joan Mitchell Foundation Fellowship. The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art showed a 25-year retrospective of his work in 2008, and the Plains Museum in Fargo organized a touring exhibition of his artwork in 2013-14. His work is included in many private and public collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, National Museum of American Art, Art Institute of Chicago, Milwaukee Art Museum, Minneapolis Institute of Art, Tate Gallery, and others. T.L. Solien lives and works in Madison, Wisconsin.

This exhibition, along with all Tandem Press exhibition programming, is made possible through support from the Anonymous November 10, 2023

Reception: Friday, November 3, 5-8 pm

Tandem Press is pleased to host hidden figures: unveiling selfhood, curated by our Summer 2023 Curatorial Intern Teyjhana Barton-Neal, a rising senior at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. During her internship, we challenged Teyjhana to curate an exhibition under the conceptual theme of her choice from a limited number of available artworks from the Tandem Press inventory. This exhibition is the result.

Exhibition Statement:

hidden figures: unveiling selfhood is an exhibition that explores how our minds interpret and perceive what we experience. In this exhibition, I ask how identity can be witnessed from the outside. Thomas Reid, an 18th century Scottish philosopher believed that the identification of self is derived from memory. Being able to recall moments individually or simultaneously where one was a witness to oneself allows one to have an identity of self. In other words, through experience and retaining that experience we can know ourselves. Cartesian theory argues that the perception of reality lies in the perception of self, with the phrase. “I think, therefore I am.” With these ideas in mind, people find identity through the experience of life.

This exhibition asks the viewer to consider what experiences in their life helped define who they are. The goal of this exhibit is to guide viewers on a journey of self-introspection. The selection of works in this exhibition are based on self-identifying categories that I use to deconstruct my own identity. They fall into the categories of age, race, physical body, occupation, and state of mind. For the curation of this exhibition, these five self-identifying signals will be named as: BLOOM, KIN, CORPORIS SANCTUM, ALMA, and IKIGAI, respectively. I think that these five separate categories break down most of what makes each person who they are. As the search, construction, and manifestation of identity becomes a surging concern for the new generation, my hope is that the viewer can look deeper into themselves through the windows of memory that these works create for me.

Curator Biography:

Teyjhana Barton-Neal is a contemporary mixed media artist from Boston, Massachusetts. Artistic practice for Teyjhana started in primary school in the art program at Boston Trinity Academy. She then progressed to high school where she sought mentorship from the non-profit organization Artists for Humanity starting in 2017. There, she was able to explore different mediums such as collage and digital art. Her portfolio has evolved to include poetry, traditional art, digital art, dance, tattooing, and curation. Starting in 2021, Teyjhana began to pursue a career in art in her undergraduate college years at Spelman College. Her art has evolved beyond just the dimension of its composition to become symbolic representations of the concepts she learns inside and outside of her classes.

Teyjhana states that, “As an artist, my interests lie in the occult or undeciphered. I create art based on its symbolism in the hope that members of the audience will recognize whatever symbol resonates with them the most. I create symbolic mirror images of myself and aspects of my life. I want my art to pull viewers in through its recognizable visuals and to intrigue viewers with its unconventional concepts. There is a chaos that enters a space before understanding comes.”

This exhibition is supported by the Anonymous Fund.
","type":"Event","state":"published","slug":"hidden-figures-unveiling-selfhood","created_at":"2023-08-06 20:18:25.857303","updated_at":"2023-08-31 The show, titled On Tenterhooks, was guest curated by Devon Stackonis, our 2023-2024 University of Wisconsin-Madison Graduate Student Curatorial Assistant. During her time working at Tandem over the past year, Stackonis familiarized herself with many of the prints that have been created at Tandem Press. As one of her final projects, she was challenged to conceptualize and curate an exhibition of prints, selecting pieces from the Tandem Press inventory and contextualizing them to create a unique statement.

This exhibition includes prints by Suzanne Caporael, Lesley Dill, Michelle Grabner, Manabu Ikeda, Nicola López, David Lynch, Judy Pfaff, Sam Richardson, Alison Saar, David Shapiro, and Steven Sorman.

Curator Statement

Tenters and tenterhooks were commonly used as early as the fourteenth century as important elements in the process of weaving woolen fabric. Starting sometime in the eighteenth century, the phrase “on tenterhooks” came to mean “in suspense,” the way a piece of cloth is suspended from tenterhooks on a tenter. In contemporary literary use, it extends metaphorically to express a range of tension, anxiety, excitement, fear, and anticipation of what is yet to come.

On Tenterhooks asks the viewer to consider what is to come, to acknowledge the moment of anticipation between definitive events, to sit with the unknown and its many possibilities, and to find some grounding amidst the precariousness of it all.

I have selected a group of works from Tandem Press’s inventory that embody this notion of being suspended, stretched, or held in tension, either formally or metaphorically. These prints speak to extended moments of waiting nervously as events unfold. They represent various possible responses to a state of suspense, whether it is with great anticipation and excitement of a desired outcome, or with agitation, distress, and fear of its opposite. An acknowledgment of tension and discomfort in uncertainty can serve as a significant catalyst for change. In these moments between known and unknown, fear or stress may even shift to hope.

Curator Biography

Devon Stackonis is a visual artist and printmaker specializing in mezzotint and intaglio processes. In the late 1960s Benglis, a feminist artist, created pours, acid-hued liquid rubber that congealed on floors or slumped in corners. Around the same time, Black artist and civil rights activist, Sam Gilliam, was developing his drape paintings, stained raw canvas suspended from the ceiling. These immersive works, like Benglis’s pours, depended on gravity as the architecture of the space determined the undulating shapes. From the margins of the art world, Benglis and Gilliam reconceived entirely the notion of painterly abstraction, rejecting the conventions of easel painting in favor of letting the world back in.

The works on display continue the spirit of experimentation that is intrinsic to the work of these two artists. Benglis’s sand-cast glass sculptures, created during a visit to Madison in 1988 and exhibited for the first time, extend on her formless works from the 1960s, incorporating mesh and wire to create rough-hewn textures. Gilliam, Tandem Press’s first visiting artist in 1987, returned in 2008 to make his New Movie series, which combine translucent printed layers with decorative papers and wood veneer. Two of the earliest artists to work at Tandem, Benglis and Gilliam set the foundation for our continued commitment to collaboration in the form of the innovative and the unexpected.

This exhibition is supported by the Anonymous Fund.
","type":null,"state":"published","slug":"in-tandem-lynda-benglis-sam-gilliam","created_at":"2025-02-12 04:19:39.423","updated_at":"2025-02-12 04:19:39.423","excerpt":"","is_timeless":true,"organization_id":274,"highlighted":false,"opening_starts_at":null,"opening_ends_at":null,"searchable":"'1960s':29B,171B '1987':190B '1988':157B '2008':193B 'abstract':25B,109B 'acid':37B 'acid-hu':36B 'activist':58B 'anonym':247B 'architectur':85B 'around':49B 'art':98B 'artist':33B,54B,142B,188B,215B 'back':122B 'beng':4A,8B,30B,77B,100B,143B,220B 'black':53B 'canva':68B 'cast':147B 'ceil':72B 'civil':56B 'collabor':231B 'combin':201B 'commit':229B 'congeal':42B 'continu':128B,228B 'convent':112B 'corner':48B 'creat':34B,150B,177B 'decor':206B 'depend':80B 'determin':89B 'develop':62B 'display':127B 'drape':64B 'earli':12B 'earliest':214B 'easel':114B 'entir':104B 'exhibit':159B,242B 'experiment':132B 'extend':164B 'favor':117B 'feminist':32B 'form':234B 'formless':167B 'foundat':225B 'fund':248B 'gilliam':6A,11B,60B,102B,182B,222B 'glass':148B 'graviti':82B 'hewn':180B 'hu':38B 'immers':74B 'incorpor':172B 'innov':237B 'intrins':135B 'known':18B 'late':28B 'layer':204B 'let':119B 'like':76B 'liquid':39B 'lynda':3A,7B 'madison':155B 'make':195B 'margin':95B 'mesh':173B 'modernist':24B 'movi':198B 'new':197B 'notion':106B 'paint':65B,115B 'painter':108B 'paper':207B 'pour':35B,79B 'practition':13B 'press':184B 'print':203B 'raw':67B 'reconceiv':103B 'redefin':23B 'reject':110B 'return':191B 'right':57B 'rough':179B 'rough-hewn':178B 'rubber':40B 'sam':5A,10B,59B 'sand':146B 'sand-cast':145B 'sculptur':149B 'seri':199B 'set':223B 'shape':92B 'slump':46B 'space':88B 'spirit':130B 'stain':66B 'support':244B 'suspend':69B 'tandem':2A,15B,183B,219B 'textur':181B 'time':52B,163B 'toward':22B 'transluc':202B 'two':141B,211B 'undul':91B 'unexpect':240B 'veneer':210B 'visit':153B,187B 'well':17B 'wire':175B 'wood':209B 'work':21B,75B,125B,138B,168B,217B 'world':99B,121B 'first':162B,186B 'floor':44B","thumbnail":"https://res.cloudinary.com/dfafo598z/image/upload/f_auto,q_auto/v1736967553/ra8vk3fnbpvzitv5jwn5.jpg","calendar":null,"carousel":false,"category_name":"Exhibitions"},{"id":18167,"title":"Christie Tirado: Grabando Historias","starts_at":"2025-03-10 00:00:00","ends_at":"2025-04-04 00:00:00","body":"
Tandem Press is pleased to host Grabando Historias, a Master of Fine Arts Qualifier Exhibition by Christie Tirado, University of Wisconsin-Madison MFA Candidate and 2024-2025 Tandem Press Studio Project Assistant. This exhibition highlights the results of that partnership—works that celebrate leisure, domestic life, and personal style through bold color, repeating patterns, and cadenced compositions.

Adams first came to Tandem Press in 2019, following a recommendation from artist Mickalene Thomas. His first print with the studio, Self-Portrait on Float, shows him lounging on a unicorn pool float—gold-leaf accents, rainbow details, and all—Adams gazes out at the viewer with his head gently tilted, surrounded by a sea of vivid teal.

Throughout these prints, we see a celebration of rest, domesticity, recreation, and style—recurring motifs in his larger body of work—filtered through the medium’s rich graphic possibilities. Working closely with Tandem’s collaborative printmakers, Adams has taken full advantage of the studio’s technical resources and experimental spirit, resulting in prints that pulse with color and rhythm.

Silver Lining not only documents a significant chapter in Derrick Adams’s artistic practice but also celebrates the democratic and expansive nature of printmaking. His work also questions how African American experiences intersect with art history, American iconography, and consumerism. He received a BFA from Pratt Institute and an MFA from Columbia University. He is also an alumnus of the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and the Sharpe-Walentas Studio program. He has received multiple notable awards, including a Robert Rauschenberg Foundation Residency (2019), Gordon Parks Foundation Fellowship (2018), Joyce Alexander Wein Artist Prize from the Studio Museum in Harlem (2016), and the Louis Comfort Tiffany Award (2009). Derrick Adams has been exhibiting extensively since 2001, including solo exhibitions at the California African American Museum, Cleveland Museum of Art, Milwaukee Art Museum, Hudson River Museum, The Gallery in Baltimore City Hall, Museum of Arts and Design, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver. His work has also been included in numerous important exhibitions at institutions such as the Henry Art Gallery in Seattle, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati, The Studio Museum in Harlem, MoMA PS1, and the Brooklyn Museum. His work is held in many permanent public and private collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Baltimore Museum of Art, Birmingham Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Inspired by her experiences living in several disparate environments, Alexandra Riesco creates records of place and movement through printed and handmade paper pieces. In images that oscillate between abstract and representational, microscopic and macroscopic, she studies the ground closely through a scientific lens, exploring the idea of home in a time of uncertainty and the integral connection between humans and the environment.

Exhibition Statement

Centering the ground as subject, Pathways chronicles my movement within and among distinct environments through collected images, impressions, and samples. This body of work considers ideas of home and displacement, connection and disconnection, the traces left on us by place, and humanity’s impact on the environment.

The ground is the physical point of connection between the body and the environment; it is the source of food and resources, and the foundation for the idea of home. We speak of roots as origins and of earth as a final resting place. Yet, despite humanity’s integral connection to the land, the ground is often overlooked, seen as a backdrop rather than a subject worthy of attention. In Pathways, the ground confronts the viewer in various forms: through images and corresponding soil samples, through objects evoking the materiality of the ground and impressions of its varied surfaces. Referencing the visual language of the sciences, these works reorient the viewer to the ground, asking them to look closely and contemplate their own relationship with their surroundings.

This exhibition is a record of how I strive to physically connect to my own surroundings. I echo the processes that sculpt the landscape through etching, while my monoprints document ephemeral accumulations of material on the ground. Grappling with the tension between scientific objectivity and the emotional implications of home and exile, my meditative acts of close observation, collection, and recording serve both as acts of intimacy and attempts to understand place. The material qualities of handmade paper provide the organic feel of a natural object while the moment of contact between surfaces in printmaking parallels the contact between our bodies and the ground. Throughout these ruminations on my homes, past and present, the growing threat of environmental degradation lingers below the surface.

Artist Biography

Alexandra Riesco is an artist and printmaker from Miami, Florida. Her work is heavily influenced by the natural world and the dynamic processes that drive it. After completing a semester-long geology field program, she discovered the parallels between the forces that shape the planet and the slow, physical processes of printmaking. Her interest in the sciences and deep love for the outdoors feeds her practice, which incorporates drawing, printmaking, and papermaking to explore the bodily experience of the landscape, mapping and the geologic record, and the possibilities of a reciprocal rather than controlling relationship with the environment.

Riesco received her B.A. in Studio Art and Biology modified with Earth Sciences from Dartmouth College in 2017, where she won the Robert Read Prize and the Artist’s Book Prize. After spending a few years working in outdoor education, Riesco returned to printmaking and has worked as an assistant printer, workshop instructor, and manager of a fine art print publisher. She is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts degree in Printmaking from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where she received the Graduate Research Scholars Fellowship from the School of Education.

This exhibition is supported by the Anonymous Fund.
","type":null,"state":"published","slug":"alexandra-riesco-pathways","created_at":"2026-02-23 Kate Goodvin creates monumental self-portraits that chronicle the evolving story of becoming. Her work is shaped through the perspective of a Gen Z woman growing up amid the digital transformation of contemporary life and coming of age during a period marked by increasing uncertainty. Goodvin’s practice examines how distinct eras of our lives are shaped and defined by pop culture movements, media saturation, music, and the broader political, environmental, and sociological climates that surround us. Deeply personal and rooted in self-discovery, she looks inward to uncover reflections of a broader shared condition, capturing the intimate process of navigating identity in a rapidly shifting world.

This exhibition is supported by the Anonymous Fund.

More information and installation images coming soon.
","type":null,"state":"published","slug":"kate-goodvin-mfa-qualifier-exhibition","created_at":"2026-04-06 00:30:59.256","updated_at":"2026-04-06 00:30:59.256","excerpt":"","is_timeless":true,"organization_id":274,"highlighted":false,"opening_starts_at":null,"opening_ends_at":null,"searchable":"'-2026':50B '1':14B,19B '2025':49B '2026':15B '5':20B '6':12B '8':21B 'age':100B 'amid':90B 'anonym':177B 'april':11B 'art':35B 'assist':55B 'becom':75B 'broader':131B,156B 'candid':47B 'captur':159B 'chronicl':70B 'climat':136B 'collag':61B 'come':98B,184B 'condit':158B 'contemporari':95B 'creat':64B 'cultur':124B 'date':10B 'deepli':140B 'defin':121B 'digit':92B 'discoveri':147B 'distinct':113B 'environment':133B 'era':114B 'evolv':72B 'examin':111B 'excit':26B 'exhibit':9B,37B,172B 'fall':4A,8B,30B 'fine':34B 'friday':17B 'fund':178B 'gen':85B 'goodvin':2A,6B,40B,63B,108B 'grow':88B 'host':28B 'ident':165B 'imag':183B 'increas':106B 'inform':180B 'instal':182B 'intim':161B 'inward':150B 'kate':1A,5B,39B,62B 'life':96B 'live':117B 'look':149B 'madison':45B 'mark':104B 'master':32B 'may':13B,18B 'media':126B 'merg':57B 'mfa':46B 'monument':65B 'movement':125B 'music':128B 'navig':164B 'paint':59B 'period':103B 'person':141B 'perspect':82B 'pm':22B 'polit':132B 'pop':123B 'portrait':68B 'practic':110B 'press':24B,52B 'printmak':58B 'process':162B 'project':54B 'qualifi':36B 'rapid':168B 'recept':16B 'reflect':153B 'root':143B 'satur':127B 'self':67B,146B 'self-discoveri':145B 'self-portrait':66B 'shape':79B,119B 'share':157B 'shift':169B 'sociolog':135B 'soon':185B 'stori':73B 'studio':53B 'support':174B 'surround':138B 'tandem':23B,51B 'transform':93B 'trust':3A,7B,29B 'uncertainti':107B 'uncov':152B 'univers':41B 'us':139B 'wisconsin':44B 'wisconsin-madison':43B 'woman':87B 'work':77B 'world':170B 'z':86B","thumbnail":"https://res.cloudinary.com/dfafo598z/image/upload/v1775435428/po4fnhzyliqdkglcb6tx.jpg","calendar":null,"carousel":false,"category_name":"Exhibitions"},{"id":31797,"title":"Fluid Mechanics","starts_at":"2026-05-08 00:00:00","ends_at":"2026-08-29 00:00:00","body":"
Fluid Mechanics is guest curated by Alexandra Riesco, Tandem Press 2025–2026 University of Wisconsin-Madison Graduate Student Curatorial Assistant. During her time at Tandem over the past year, Riesco has familiarized herself with many of the prints created at Tandem Press. As one of her final projects, she was challenged to conceptualize and curate an exhibition, selecting pieces from the Tandem Press inventory and contextualizing them to create a unique statement.

Fluidity is defined as the ability of a substance to flow easily, the quality of being smooth and continuous, or the state of being unstable, likely to change repeatedly or unexpectedly. Artists use fluidity both conceptually and materially to express a range of seemingly contradictory ideas: stillness and motion, serenity and distress, unpredictability and the breakdown of boundaries. The quality of fluidity is directly tied to how liquids behave. Liquids respond to their environment, changing shape to fit their container. They are also transparent, acting as a lens to highlight or distort their surroundings. Beyond how these substances physically behave, different fluids—water, tears, beer, ether, etc—can each carry their own meanings.

Fluid Mechanics features work by local Madison artists as well as selected works from Tandem Press’s inventory, each using or expressing fluidity in different ways. Created in a variety of processes and techniques, including printmaking, sculpture, photography, and painting, these works demonstrate the wide range of ideas and emotions that fluidity can express.

This exhibition includes works by Baran Ataei, Suzanne Caporael, Emma Harris, Dani Hughes, Marie Lorenz, Cameron Martin, Judy Pfaff, Jane Rosen, Alison Saar, and Christian Ulloa.

","type":null,"state":"published","slug":"fluid-mechanics","created_at":"2026-05-20 20:56:22.874","updated_at":"2026-05-20 20:56:22.874","excerpt":"","is_timeless":true,"organization_id":274,"highlighted":true,"opening_starts_at":null,"opening_ends_at":null,"searchable":"'2017':385B '2025':13B '2026':14B 'abil':81B 'act':160B 'alexandra':9B,269B 'alison':264B 'also':158B 'art':374B,426B,437B 'artist':107B,196B,273B,395B 'assist':23B,417B 'ataei':249B 'b.a':371B 'baran':248B 'beer':180B 'behav':144B,175B 'beyond':170B 'biolog':376B 'bodili':345B 'book':397B 'boundari':133B 'breakdown':131B 'cameron':258B 'caporael':251B 'carri':185B 'challeng':54B 'chang':103B,150B 'christian':267B 'colleg':383B 'complet':296B 'conceptu':56B,111B 'contain':155B 'contextu':69B 'continu':94B 'contradictori':120B 'control':363B 'creat':42B,72B,215B 'curat':7B,58B 'curatori':22B 'current':431B 'dani':254B 'dartmouth':382B 'deep':328B 'defin':78B 'degre':438B 'demonstr':231B 'differ':176B,213B 'direct':139B 'discov':305B 'distort':167B 'distress':127B 'draw':338B 'drive':293B 'dynam':290B 'earth':379B 'easili':87B 'educ':407B,459B 'emma':252B 'emot':238B 'environ':149B,367B 'etc':182B 'ether':181B 'exhibit':60B,244B 'experi':346B 'explor':343B 'express':115B,210B,242B 'familiar':35B 'featur':191B 'feed':333B 'fellowship':454B 'field':302B 'final':50B 'fine':425B,436B 'fit':153B 'florida':278B 'flow':86B 'fluid':1A,3B,177B,189B 'fluiditi':76B,109B,137B,211B,240B 'forc':310B 'geolog':301B,353B 'graduat':20B,451B 'guest':6B 'harri':253B 'heavili':282B 'highlight':165B 'hugh':255B 'idea':121B,236B 'includ':223B,245B 'incorpor':337B 'influenc':283B 'instructor':420B 'interest':323B 'inventori':67B,206B 'jane':262B 'judi':260B 'landscap':349B 'len':163B 'like':101B 'liquid':143B,145B 'local':194B 'long':300B 'lorenz':257B 'love':329B 'madison':19B,195B,446B 'manag':422B 'mani':38B 'map':350B 'mari':256B 'martin':259B 'master':434B 'materi':113B 'mean':188B 'mechan':2A,4B,190B 'miami':277B 'modifi':377B 'motion':124B 'natur':286B 'one':47B 'outdoor':332B,406B 'paint':228B 'papermak':341B 'parallel':307B 'past':31B 'pfaff':261B 'photographi':226B 'physic':174B,318B 'piec':62B 'planet':314B 'possibl':357B 'practic':335B 'press':12B,45B,66B,204B 'print':41B,427B 'printer':418B 'printmak':224B,275B,321B,339B,411B,440B 'prize':392B,398B 'process':220B,291B,319B 'program':303B 'project':51B 'publish':428B 'pursu':432B 'qualiti':89B,135B 'rang':117B,234B 'rather':361B 'read':391B 'receiv':369B,449B 'reciproc':360B 'record':354B 'relationship':364B 'repeat':104B 'research':452B 'respond':146B 'return':409B 'riesco':10B,33B,270B,368B,408B 'robert':390B 'rosen':263B 'saar':265B 'scholar':453B 'school':457B 'scienc':326B,380B 'sculptur':225B 'seem':119B 'select':61B,200B 'semest':299B 'semester-long':298B 'seren':125B 'shape':151B,312B 'slow':317B 'smooth':92B 'spend':400B 'state':97B 'statement':75B 'still':122B 'student':21B 'studio':373B 'substanc':84B,173B 'surround':169B 'suzann':250B 'tandem':11B,28B,44B,65B,203B 'tear':179B 'techniqu':222B 'tie':140B 'time':26B 'transpar':159B 'ulloa':268B 'unexpect':106B 'uniqu':74B 'univers':15B,443B 'unpredict':128B 'unstabl':100B 'use':108B,208B 'varieti':218B 'water':178B 'way':214B 'well':198B 'wide':233B 'wisconsin':18B,445B 'wisconsin-madison':17B 'won':388B 'work':192B,201B,230B,246B,280B,404B,414B 'workshop':419B 'world':287B 'year':32B,403B","thumbnail":"https://res.cloudinary.com/dfafo598z/image/upload/v1779310538/jjiffqfearcq1nxjlmov.jpg","calendar":null,"carousel":false,"category_name":"Exhibitions"}]}
