\"Individuation\" was the Grand Opening exhibition at ShadowBoxX Gallery.
It featured approximately 50 of founder and artist Michael E. Voss's works. The term \"individuation\" refers to the Jungian psychological concept by which a person develops a unique identity and integrates different aspects of their personality. It involves separating from collective norms and achieving a sense of wholeness, ultimately leading to self-realization and personal growth. The hard part of individuation involves recognizing, interrogating and integrating what Jung called \"the shadow,\" which are the aspects of ourselves that we choose to deny, hide or defend our ordinary consciousness against. This is a difficult effort. But once achieved, the individual becomes at peace with their full self, instead of fighting against hidden, suppressed or rejected aspects of their individuality, as well as gaining increased empathy for others.

Have you ever been just minding your own business…when suddenly you notice the dishwasher or that weird mark on the ceiling looking back at you?
Yeah. That’s PAREIDOLIA - patterns, faces, or forms that we see in otherwise unremarkable, unrelated objects.
ShadowBoxX is assembling a group of artists from across the country who have captured this phenomenon in their works.
Pareidolia will feature paintings, drawings, carvings, stitchwork, assemblage, and prints. No digital, no AI, just hands and materials, juried by the ShadowBoxX Collective.
This show is for you if you've experienced pareidolia too! Opens March 21, 2026.

Olson is renowned for his unique large-scale artwork that uses quilted plastic waste to illustrate the amount of waste material we produce, prompting viewers to reconsider and reevaluate their relationships to plastics. His work also addresses how our unfettered capitalism and mass consumption can waste our natural resources and damage our society.
An ethos of minimal waste permeates Olson's creative process. Each piece is constructed of eight to 12 layers of used single-use plastic, which he quilts together using his grandmother's circa 1960 sewing machine. He uses overstock and leftover thread, plus scrap materials from his own production process.

Harmony is often hard to achieve. But let's be honest: Do we always want harmony? How tensions are resolved, make peace with, or completely defy opposition can be more enlightening. We want the clash. We want the contradiction. Let's see the fight!
CONFLICT OF INTERESTS is about friction. It is about using the “wrong” material on purpose. It is about the disconnect between what something looks like and what it says.
ShadowBoxX Gallery has asked 50 talented artists from across the country to show us what that disconnect looks like.
