The myth explains the changing of the seasons, however the artists represent it through a modern lens of environmental change, labor, extraction, grief, and love. Visitors experience the myth not as a fixed narrative, but as a living passage shaped by the artists’ interpretations, where themes of loss, extraction, renewal, and collective possibility unfold through encounter, movement, and participation.

Through an open call, nineteen artists were chosen by originating artist Tria Smith with curator Tricia Van Eck to work in two Summer sessions exploring the myth of Persephone, a story both ancient and urgently contemporary. While each artist, performer, or collaborator contributes a distinct voice, no work is made in isolation. Projects evolve in tandem, shaped by dialogue, shared unfinished material, and the presence of others in the process. Through this unique residency model of exchange, experimentation, and collective development, artists work in concert, allowing their work to be transformed by what surrounds it during each session, all to create a cohesive audience experience.Persephone: Extraction & Metamorphosis Session Two features performances, installations, and artwork by by resident artists: Lise Haller Baggesen, Kiera King, Bobbi Meier and Steve Meier (top row); Eileen O'Halloran, Monika Plioptyl, Edyta Stepien, and Adriana Vignoli (middle row); and sound and video installations by Charles Krampah and William Raynovich (bottom row).

Each session culminates in performative events — Session One: June 27–28 and Session Two: July 25–26 — that guides audiences through the house, creating an experiential passage through Persephone's myth as it resonates with our present ecological, social, and spiritual realities. Extraction, here, is not only myth: it is the present condition of a warming, depleted earth, and transformation is not only Persephone's, but ours to make. In the midst of climate change, conflict, and widespread uncertainty, how do we move from extraction and self-interest toward collective transformation?
","type":null,"state":"published","slug":"persephone-extraction-metamorphosis","created_at":"2026-07-20 17:01:50.757","updated_at":"2026-07-20 17:01:50.757","excerpt":"","is_timeless":true,"organization_id":2400,"highlighted":false,"opening_starts_at":"2026-07-21 19:00:00","opening_ends_at":"2026-07-21 21:00:00","searchable":"'-5':68B '-8':59B '-9':52B,77B '21':49B '24':56B '25':24B,65B,350B '26':28B,74B,351B '27':344B '28':345B '3':67B '6':58B '6018north':4B,35B '7':51B,76B 'adriana':318B 'allow':264B 'ancient':211B 'artist':130B,162B,184B,189B,217B,260B,297B 'artwork':41B,293B 'audienc':282B,354B 'baggesen':300B 'base':87B 'bobbi':303B 'bottom':333B 'call':182B 'chang':124B,139B,409B 'charl':328B 'chosen':186B 'climat':408B 'cohes':281B 'collabor':220B 'collect':88B,171B,258B,425B 'concert':263B 'condit':387B 'conflict':410B 'contemporari':92B,214B 'contribut':221B 'creat':279B,358B 'culmin':17B,61B,337B 'curat':193B 'cyclic':100B 'danc':39B 'dark':111B 'deplet':391B 'descent':109B 'develop':259B 'dialogu':237B 'distinct':223B 'draft':45B 'earth':392B 'eck':196B 'ecolog':372B 'edyta':315B 'eileen':310B 'emerg':114B 'encount':175B 'entir':34B 'environment':138B 'event':13B,340B 'evolv':232B 'exchang':46B,255B 'experi':31B,89B,146B,283B 'experienti':360B 'experiment':256B 'explain':122B 'explor':93B,203B 'extract':2A,82B,141B,168B,285B,377B,419B 'featur':289B 'fill':32B 'fix':152B 'free':70B,79B 'friday':54B 'grief':142B 'guid':353B 'haller':299B 'halloran':312B 'hous':357B 'howev':128B 'immers':30B 'instal':291B,326B 'interest':423B 'interpret':163B 'invit':5B 'isol':230B 'join':8B 'journey':101B 'juli':23B,27B,48B,55B,64B,73B,349B 'june':343B 'kiera':301B 'king':302B 'krampah':329B 'labor':140B 'len':136B 'light':117B 'lise':298B 'live':157B 'loss':167B 'love':144B 'made':228B 'make':403B 'materi':240B 'meier':304B,307B 'metamorphosi':3A,83B,286B 'middl':320B 'midst':406B 'model':253B 'modern':135B 'monika':313B 'move':417B 'movement':176B 'myth':96B,121B,148B,205B,365B,382B 'narrat':153B 'next':14B,19B 'nineteen':183B 'o':311B 'one':342B 'open':181B 'origin':188B 'other':245B 'particip':178B 'passag':158B,361B 'perform':18B,62B,218B,290B,339B 'persephon':1A,81B,98B,207B,284B,363B,398B 'plioptyl':314B 'pm':53B,60B,69B,78B 'possibl':172B 'presenc':243B 'present':90B,371B,386B 'process':248B 'progress':12B 'project':231B 'raynovich':332B 'realiti':376B 'renew':169B 'repres':131B 'resid':252B,296B 'reson':368B 'rough':44B 'row':309B,321B,334B 'rsvp':71B,80B 'saturday':22B,63B 'season':127B 'self':422B 'self-interest':421B 'session':42B,202B,276B,287B,336B,341B,347B 'shape':159B,235B 'share':238B 'smith':191B 'social':373B 'sound':38B,323B 'space':36B 'spiritu':375B 'stepien':316B 'steve':306B 'stori':209B 'summer':201B 'sunday':26B,72B 'surround':272B 'tandem':234B 'theme':165B 'time':86B 'time-bas':85B 'top':308B 'toward':424B 'transform':119B,269B,394B,426B 'tria':190B 'tricia':194B 'tuesday':47B 'two':43B,200B,288B,348B 'uncertainti':413B 'underworld':104B 'unfinish':239B 'unfold':173B 'uniqu':251B 'upperworld':107B 'urgent':213B 'van':195B 'video':325B 'vignoli':319B 'visitor':145B 'voic':224B 'warm':390B 'week':15B 'weekend':20B 'widespread':412B 'william':331B 'work':10B,198B,226B,261B,266B 'work-in-progress':9B","thumbnail":"https://res.cloudinary.com/dfafo598z/image/upload/v1784566884/pmz8cun8riqnt8s4bwgb.png","calendar":null,"carousel":false,"category_name":"Performance"}]}
