There’s a variety of explanations for the industry’s unexpected ability to survive. There are macroeconomic factors involving stimulus packages and governments further easing already lax monetary policies. There are also technological ones based upon the existence of platforms for displaying art. (Many of these platforms already existed, but few of them were used frequently.) There are even psycho-social factors involving the need for cultural and intellectual engagement that requires minimal interpersonal contact.

Via Artnews

","published_at":"2021-06-30 09:00:00","state":"published","slug":"what-we-re-reading-6-28","type":"NewsPost","meta_description":"","text":null,"created_at":"2021-06-28 15:58:02.218763","updated_at":"2021-06-30 14:47:49.699118","category_id":2,"highlighted":false,"searchable":"'-19':57B '000':90B,101B '100':145B,187B '1770':167B '1928':232B '2022':186B '25':100B,179B '26':86B '3':184B '56':89B '6/30':5A 'aamd':293B 'abil':349B 'accord':278B 'alreadi':363B,385B 'also':369B 'america':39B 'anim':337B 'answer':295B 'art':31B,33B,42B,63B,71B,83B,106B,109B,132B,158B,216B,235B,290B,325B,380B 'artist':125B 'artnet':300B 'artnew':415B 'associ':288B 'auction':302B 'base':372B 'blagdon':7B 'blue':137B,165B 'botan':219B 'boy':138B,166B 'britain':198B 'british':157B 'california':224B 'career':239B 'center':32B,64B,107B 'chang':277B 'channel':13B 'collect':111B 'come':139B 'consid':237B 'contact':413B 'courtesi':25B 'covid':56B 'creat':8B 'creation':129B 'cultur':405B 'curat':15B 'day':191B 'dedic':78B 'defi':128B 'delay':52B 'describ':152B 'devot':37B 'differ':255B 'director':292B 'display':123B,230B,379B 'dozen':253B 'eas':362B 'emeri':6B 'engag':408B 'environ':43B,84B,110B 'even':396B 'exhibit':95B 'exist':375B,386B 'expect':249B 'explan':343B 'facil':93B 'factor':355B,400B 'field':21B 'first':35B,76B,210B 'follow':199B,309B,315B 'frequent':393B 'ft':92B 'function':329B 'gainsborough':134B,151B 'galleri':175B,308B 'garden':220B 'genr':127B 'genre-defi':126B 'global':319B 'go':169B 'govern':360B 'heal':10B 'home':140B 'homegrown':41B 'hub':118B 'huntington':214B 'hybrid':301B 'industri':276B,346B 'intellectu':407B 'interperson':412B 'involv':356B,401B 'januari':180B 'john':28B,60B 'june':87B 'just-releas':281B 'justic':268B 'kohler':30B,62B,105B 'last':195B,316B 'lax':364B 'librari':215B 'loan':207B 'lockdown':320B 'london':177B 'long':81B 'long-neglect':80B 'machin':11B 'maciejewski':24B 'macroeconom':354B 'magnet':20B 'make':251B 'mani':381B 'marino':223B 'mark':261B 'market':326B 'masterpiec':155B 'may':185B 'michael':29B,61B 'miner':18B 'minim':411B 'monetari':365B 'money':246B 'month':51B 'much':245B,298B 'museum':36B,77B,217B,241B,275B,291B 'nation':174B 'need':403B 'neglect':82B 'newspap':133B,236B 'next':181B 'norm':306B 'object':102B 'one':311B,371B 'open':44B,69B 'packag':358B 'paint':148B 'pandem':58B,264B 'photo':22B 'platform':377B,384B 'polici':366B 'preserv':34B,72B 'properti':16B 'psycho':398B 'psycho-soci':397B 'public':201B 're':3A 'read':4A 'releas':283B 'report':285B 'requir':410B 'research':120B 'result':53B 'return':160B 'rich':23B 'role':256B 'salari':272B,284B 'san':222B 'seem':327B 'seen':196B 'semi':335B 'semi-suspend':334B 'serv':115B 'sheboygan':66B 'show':171B 'showstopp':135B 'sinc':192B,231B 'social':267B,399B 'social-justic':266B 'sq':91B 'state':332B 'stimulus':357B 'store':97B 'suit':310B 'surpris':314B 'surviv':351B 'suspend':336B 'technolog':370B 'ten':50B 'ten-month':49B 'thoma':150B 'time':211B 'turbul':259B 'uk':143B,163B 'unexpect':348B 'upon':373B 'upris':269B 'uproar':202B 'use':392B 'varieti':341B 'via':130B,233B,299B,414B 'well':113B,323B 'wisconsin':46B,67B 'work':204B 'world':74B 'year':146B,182B,188B,260B,317B","thumbnail":"https://res.cloudinary.com/dfafo598z/image/upload/f_auto,q_auto/v1721767420/itcaerxmhfllghbuhsoa.jpg","editor_pick":false,"category_name":"Previews"},"related":[{"id":14425,"title":"New Exhibitions, Tours and Open Houses: October 17 and 18","excerpt":"","body":"
This weekend's art plans can take you across Chicago, into the far suburbs, and north to Wisconsin.

The Chicago Architecture Center’s annual Open House Chicago opens doors to distinctive spaces, while family activities and an outdoor sculpture tour offer more ways to spend time with art.

Here is a look at what’s on this Saturday and Sunday.
